MET 1010 - Introduction to Meteorology
For this course, Introduction to Meteorology, we were asked to track a cold front a estimate the time that it passed over a certain area based on information collected by a weather station in our chosen area.
Here is the cold front that I tracked:

I believe that the cold front passed through the Dallas area between 9 and 1100 UTC. I think that this is when the cold front passed through the area because after that time, the temperature drops and reaches its lowest point for the day, which is a typical occurrence following the passage of a cold front. Also, after that time, there is a slight shift in the direction that the wind is blowing. Preceding the cold front the skies in the Dallas area are overcast, and become less so as the cold front passes through the area. Two other indicating factors is the change in the atmospheric pressure and dew point, both of which rise after the cold front has passed.
In completing this assignment, and discussing weather patterns and air masses in class, I have learned the characteristics and the determinants of cold fronts. I have also learned the meanings behind the symbols used for indicating weather conditions that are used by weather stations in order to relay the information that has been collected. This, and other knowledge that I have gained during this course will help me throughout my life because my knowledge and understanding of how weather changes, and the signs that are given when the weather is about to change, has increased. Weather plays an important role in our everyday lives, and this class has shown me how important and huge of a role that weather really has.
