FHS 2400-Marriage and Family Relations
Throughout this course, all of the homework that we were assigned asked us to reflect on our personal family experiences or our opinions on various matters concerning family relations. One of the assignments that we had the option of completing early on in the course asked us to find the strengths in our own families and compare them to strengths of families of different ethnic groups, and this is my assignment:

Another assignment that we had the option of choosing to complete asked us to make a list of the top 15 traits or characteristics that we would look for in a mate. After we made our list, we were then asked to choose which five would be the most important in our search. This is my assignment:

In my completion of these assignments my assumptions were challenged, and I gained a better personal understanding. The assignment in which we were asked to evaluate the strengths in our families and compare them to those from other ethnic groups challenged my previously held assumptions of those ethnic groups, and the stereotypes that they are frequently characterized by. It helped me to realize how much different ethnic groups are actually alike and have in common, which was more than I had previously thought. The assignment in which we listed the traits that are most important to us in a mate, helped me to seriously contemplate the things that I feel matter the most in a long-term relationship. The traits that I listed as being the most important assisted me in knowing myself better and the kind of person that I am.
